Flexibility is an important benefit of any gabion structure. Since the baskets are constructed from galvanized mesh wire and filled with rocks, the flexibility of a gabion structure allows it to withstand pressure without deforming, cracking or breaking as in the case of concrete and other materials. Walls can be constructed following grade along a road, tapered on top to follow changing elevation or terraced creating stunning flower gardens that can flow over the wall.
Thangtong produces gabion box of both types- double knotted and hexagonal mesh eye (double twisted).

Hot Dipped GI Double knotted Gabion usually comes in a standard roll of 16’ width x 100’ length woven from 8 swg (4mm) wire diameter with mesh eye sizes of 100x100mm, 125x125mm & 150 x150mm. However, we also produce ready-made boxes as per client’s requirement. Some normal sizes include 1x1x1m, 1.5x1x1m, 2x1x1m, 2.5x1x1m, 3x1x1m and so on. For boxes whose sizes range above 1.5m length, an individual diaphragm of 1x1m is required.
Currently, Thangtong only produces hand woven double twisted gabion box. But we do have plans to install a machine in the near future. The wire size used ranges from 2.5mm to 4mm diameter. The wire used in mesh wire comes in 2.7mm/3mm diameter and the wire used in selvedge comes in 3.4mm/4mm diameter with lacing wire of 2.2mm/2.5mm respectively. The opening of the mesh comes in 100x120mm. Some of the most commonly used dimensions are 1x1x1m, 1.5x1x1m, 2x1x1m, 2.5x1x1m, 3x1x1m and so on.
